{An Unconventional Bedside Table}

Starting out as newlyweds, my husband and I weren't about to drop thousands of dollars to furnish every corner of our home. Besides, I wanted time to develop my own sense of decorating and wait for those pieces that I really liked.

We got a wonderful dining set second hand (thank you Craigslist!) and refinished it, we got a gorgeous bed on a furniture store weekend sale, and we opted for a store model of a high quality mattress in order to snag a half price deal. But once the basics were set, we decided to take our time with everything else. And we still are. In lei of purchasing brand new bedside tables we decided to use a couple of extra island chairs that came with our dining set (we don't have an island anyways!). And after a year, I've actually really grown fond of the creative look of this unconventional bedside table...

An Ikea lamp ($15). I am crazy about the glow this lamp gives off. So crazy about it that I'm willing to drive two and a half hours to an Ikea just to buy more...

An unconventional bedside table. Yet, it's actually the perfect height and size (keep in mind that these are island chairs, not bar stools).

A worthwhile read One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. What reads are on your bedside table?

My favorite candle...Frosted Cupcake Candle from Bath & Body Works. Even if I just go into Bath & Body Works to browse, I'm bound to come out with several of these.

An every now and then gift from my sweet hubby. I love how pure and bright these white daisies look on my night stand in contrast to the peaceful gray of our freshly painted walls (Annapolis Gray Benjamin Moore)

Do you have any creative ways you've improvised with home decor?

The island chairs are a great improvise until you find what you love. We have been using bedside tables we borrowed from my parents (they don't exactly match} but work until we can find what we want. We also found our bed & mattress on craigslist! It was never used in a guest bedroom, plus it's a PB bed!

More decor blog posts please! I love new ideas, especially now that we have moved and need to start decorating again :)

Happy for you and your new spot. Isn't moving into a new place so exciting? A fresh start and new design ideas! Just love it!

I just found your blog from Kelly's Korner ... great tips in the post above. I love the idea of using the island chair as a bed side table - wish we had more room in our bedroom right now! Have you ever gotten the Fresh Bamboo candle from Bath & Body Works? It is such a clean, light smell. Have a great day!

Hi Kelly, glad you discovered my blog and glad you like the chair idea in the above post. I haven't tried the Fresh Bamboo candle from Bath & Body yet, but I might have to give it a try. Thanks for the tip!

Love the stool nightstand idea! We currently use TV trays as end tables in our living room but they don't look so cute! ha! Your grey walls are so pretty and calming.
