{ First Day of School...Well Sorta }

First days of school. Do you remember yours? If only I had the photo to show you my first day of preschool. I still remember it...decked out in a pink dress with a pink bookbag (which looked almost as big as me) I stood next to my brother in front of the mini-van. I was so proud to be going to school.

Today is one of those days I want to remember. And why not scrapbook it right here on the blog.

A few memories and photos from my (sorta) first day of school...this time as an assistant teacher- part of the transitional kindergarten team. And I say sorta because it wasn't actually the first day of school with the kids. But it was new faculty and staff orientation. So to me, that sorta counts as my first day.  Just roll with me here.

The classic "First Day of School Photo". Seeing as this is one of my three good teaching outfits I'm in need of more. Any good ideas? I've hit up Old Navy and Target for some good finds. However, it can be a little tricky to find something that is nice enough to look professional, yet casual enough for sticky fingers, markers, and kindergarten craft projects. Seriously, I could use some inspiration and recommendations.

And I came home to of my husband's famous napkin notes...

He surrounded it with a few flowers and on the edges of the napkin he wrote words to describe me such as "wife", "blogger", "photographer"...

And these were waiting for me on my bedside table. I'm a huge fan of white flowers. Huge fan.

My husband is great at celebrating new beginnings and making them special. Me...not so much. How did I celebrate this day? I went grocery shopping. Case and point. Luckily I have him.

How do you make new beginnings, fresh starts, and first experiences meaningful and memorable?

Congratulations on starting your new job! What a sweet hubby! I love making new beginnings special. Jeff & I like to pick a new or favorite date spot to go out together and celebrate special events.

Too funny about the first day of school pics. My mom always made us take them every year too! My first day of kindergarten I was so excited because I got a My Little Pony lunchbox. Super exciting! ha.

Also, I found this blog and she has outfit ideas. They are cute and work appropriate but not super dressy. Maybe try places like Marshalls or TJMaxx because you can find some cute things without the prices. Kohl's is always worth a try too. Or maybe Gap or JCrew outlets, if you have one close by. Hope you can find some cute items. What good ones did you find at Old Navy & Target?

Thanks for the congratulations, I'm very excited. M took me out on a date last night to celebrate...followed by fro-yo from TCBY.
Too. Delicious. Yum.

I remember those lunchboxes! I remember having a Minnie Mouse one...ha!

Thanks for the blog recommendation- that'll be good inspiration for me. I tried TJMaxx the other day but couldn't find anything in smaller sizes that without "juicy couture" stamped across the rear or intentional holes...haha! ;) I wish we had a JCrew or Gap outlet nearby because that's a genius idea! But we do have a Kohl's, I'll try it out! I keep hearing they've got good deals.
At Old Navy & Target I found some versatile v-neck tees (T), jersey knit skirts (ON), jean jacket (ON), and cute sweaters (T). I am a huge fan of mix-and-match basics.

What an incredible support you have at home!!! Wow! I hope your first day was everything you hoped it would be. And you'll want to go back to this "scrapbook" page when you have "one of those days" (because you know you will. . .) and remember why you are doing what you are doing! It sounds like the school is lucky, lucky to have you working with their children :)

Stopping by from Kelly's. Your husband is so cute! I love Kohl's for my teacher wardrobe--cute stuff that doesn't break the bank, but durable enough to handle the kids. Honestly I've taken to wearing colored t-shirts with different types of slacks most days, and dress it up with jewelry.
Happy back to school! Have a fabulous year!

Val- thank you, I am so lucky God brought us together! And thanks for the tip on Kohl's. I actually just went there today after church on a mission to buy some new work pants. I came out with an adorable throw pillow for the couch instead. Too many good deals, shattered my focus ;) I thought it was a great place, definitely going to shop there more often!

The note your husband left is amazing. I love his words. They made me all teary eyed. I hope you school year goes well.

I found some great end of summer deals on clearance online at the Lands End store. You might find great shirts for under $10.

I would love for you to link to my Back to School Traditions link up!
