This weekend I had the opportunity to experience a photography workshop with Sandy Puc called Babies & Bellies, hosted by Creative Live. It was such a great experience. Sandy offered so much valuable knowledge from her 24 years spent photographing babies, children, families, and maternity. And her fun, charismatic personality captivated all my attention.
I also liked that, though Sandy is a highly successful photographer and business woman, she also stressed the value of spending time with your family, specifically from her experience as a mom. She said that the time you have when your kids are little is time you cannot get back. I very much respected her for saying that. Often in our career consumed culture we miss the point of careers: Sandy stressed that we have jobs to make money so that we can be with the people we love. "It's not about money, it's about time".

This weekend workshop gave me the tools, confidence, and knowledge to feel better equipped come my next portrait sessions. In addition, listening to Sandy provided me with an understanding of where I need to go from here as far as launching my photography business (which is, like many of my subjects, still in the baby stages).
One of my favorite quotes from the weekend was when Sandy said that
in order to make footprints in the sand, we have to get our butt off the ground.
I'm ready to get my butt off the ground and get this photography thing started. Like Sandy said in the workshop, everybody has to start somewhere...
