THIS Painting

Ever since I wrote this post about our new home I've gotten lots of comments about this painting. Local Durham Artist Eleatta Diver painted it for our home as part of a very generous on her part art work trade. This painting really is one of our very favorite things in our home. And several of you have asked me how you could get one.

Eleatta is super talented and does custom art work. She also sells prints and I'm pretty sure canvas stretch prints of her paintings if there is one you already have your eye on. The painting she created for us is called "Rest Here" and you can find prints starting at $46 here

With a little one on the way I want to look for ways to incorporate art into our life so that she develops an appreciation for color, texture, and all those other lovely principles that comprise art. But of course, on a budget.

How do you bring art into your home and everyday life?

19 Weeks

I'm 19 weeks!

Size of baby: 6 inches long and 8.5 ounces, estimate.

Baby is: From what I've read Baby Girl Schneider's brain is developing nerve cells to refine her five senses- taste, smell, sight, touch, and hearing.

Maternity Clothes: Wearing all maternity clothes now. Thankful my mom gifted me with some super comfy, but super cute maternity clothes and I've been wearing those. It's fairly easy for me since I'm not working, I don't have to worry about finding dressy maternity clothes. I'm really enjoying these Secret Fit Belly Maternity Gaucho Capris from Destination Maternity. The shirt I'm wearing is A Pea in the Pod and I think it is just the prettiest shade of green. Mom and I were shopping and found it marked down from $45 to $15, Mom has a thing for finding good sales.

Sleep: Sleeping good. I'm using pillows and a blanket to create my own body pillow to help sleeping on my side be more comfortable.

Gender: It's a girl! And our girl has a name....shhhhhh for right now.

Cravings: I'm trying to increase my calories as I've got a minimum of 20 pounds to gain (my midwife's goal for me). I've been eating lots of whole wheat linguine with spurts of spray butter (cheese and pasta sauce are both pretty unappetizing to my queasy tummy), peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread, and eating lots of clementines (I'll eat in 3 in one sitting, ha!). I'm also sneaking in extra calories with Silk chocolate soy milk and Silk Very Vanilla soy milk (dairy is just too much on my queasy tummy). I'm trying to make sure that as I increase my calories I'm also choosing foods that have good nutrients for our growing baby girl.

Symptoms: Still some nausea and queasiness, but it's definitely getting better. I'm just careful about what I eat because certain foods definitely make my tummy feel worse. Belly button has almost completely popped! And I find I can't stand for very long or my legs start to ache. It's a good thing I decided not to return to work in the fall because I work in a pre-kindergarten classroom and five hours on my feet would be so hard!

Best moment of this week: I felt her move! I've felt little things before, but I haven't really been able to distinguish if it was my little wiggle worm girl or just my dinner digesting. But I was sitting at the computer and felt this fluttery rolling sensation that was definitely baby girl. Practicing her somersaults in honor of the Olympics.

"For this child I have prayed..." (1 Sam 1:27)

Baby Girl, like I always say- we pray for you all the time and love you so much and that won't change. Your Daddy took me shopping this week because he wanted to buy you a present. In fact, he came in late from work one night while I was sleeping and woke me up to tell me he wanted to go shopping and buy you a present the next day. He got you a little set of long sleeve onesies so you'll be warm this winter (Mommy's suggestion). And one of the onesies says "Daddy Loves Me". Of course, you won't need a onesie to remind you that we love you. We'll let you know everyday in everything we do.

18 Weeks

I'm 18 weeks!

Size of baby: 5.6 inches long and about 6.7 ounces, or about the size of a large sweet potato.

Baby is: According to what I've read, baby is moving a lot hiccuping, rolling, twisting, sucking,  kicking, and swallowing. At this point baby can hear noises outside the womb and the sources I've read say that means she'll favor music such as classical which is about 60 beats per minute, aka about how fast my heart is beating since she hears that all day and night.

Maternity Clothes: If the photo above isn't proof enough I've officially moved out of regular clothes into maternity clothes. My mom and I had a girls' afternoon (which is now 3 generations since my bun in the oven came along), and spent a few hours at Destination Maternity at Southpoint. Robin who runs the store is so friendly and was very helpful as I wasn't really sure what I was doing at first since maternity clothes are different. If you live in the area I definitely recommend this store. We snagged some great on sale prices and mom treated me to some lovely clothes I'm excited to wear! Gaucho pants and gaucho capris, convertible cargo pants, A Pea in the Pod t-shirts, and a 3/4 sleeve sweater made their way home in my shopping bag. Maternity clothes are amazing, so comfy! I'm thinking I should do some blog posts about maternity clothes because they're surprisingly not that easy to find, but I'm discovering some great ones.

Sleep: Sleeping well and still fairly comfortably.

Gender: It's a GIRL! We're working on names which is lots of fun, but also a lot of responsibility.

Cravings: My appetite is really picking up now. For lunch yesterday I ate two full peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread and shortly thereafter stole half of one of Mike's sandwichs, ha! Still craving more simple things though as I still have nausea if I eat too richly. Chocolate soy milk, peanut butter and honey sandwiches on whole wheat, apples and pears, and chicken noodle soup are all on my list of latest food cravings.

Symptoms: Still have nausea so I'm trying to listen to my body about what foods I can and can't tolerate. Spider veins are there, and -hopefully this isn't TMI but really there seems to be no TMI when pregnant- my belly button has almost completely popped.

Best moment of this week: I have 2 this week, getting to listen to our favorite music- the baby's heart beat- at our last midwife appointment. And maternity shopping with mom.

"For this child I have prayed..." (1 Sam 1:27)

We love you and pray for you all the time, baby girl. You have already made us so proud just with the beat of your heart. Oh, and I think we're getting closer to a name for you. So maybe when we're practicing your possible names out loud you do a little extra wiggle to let us know which sounds best to you?

17 Weeks

I'm 17 weeks, so close to halfway there!

Size of baby: According to our ultrasound (and if I'm remembering correctly with pregnancy brain!) Baby Girl Schneider is about 5 inches long and weighs about 7 ounces, that means she is truly having a serious growth spurt.

Baby is: her cartilage is hardening into bones (hence the cravings for chocolate soy milk I guess, calcium!), she's starting to put on some fat (I think my belly is evidence), and she's got eyelashes and eyebrows.

Maternity clothes: The blue striped dress in the picture, I found it on the sale rack at Target for $2.56! It's easy in the summer weather because I can wear a lot of flowy non-maternity dresses and find them for great prices. But I'm definitely outgrowing my regular clothes (Even some of my stretchy sweatpants!) rapidly. I'm needing to do a little maternity shopping, any moms out there I'd love to know where you shop/shopped for maternity clothes.

Sleep: Only waking up once for a bathroom break during the night. But I am noticing that it's starting to get harder to roll from one side to the other in bed as the bump grows. I'm thinking of purchasing one of those body pillows pregnant moms can use, anyone out there use one and liked it or didn't?

Gender: It's a GIRL! We decided we wanted to find out at our ultrasound and it was such a special moment when the sonographer typed "It's a....GIRL!" on the ultrasound screen. Of course, I would have been totally fine with either a boy or girl, it's just special knowing something more about this little one.

Cravings: Still having nausea and really strong food aversions, which limit what I can tolerate eating. But I have been craving Silk Chocolate Soy Milk (I drink soy milk because dairy really upsets my stomach with this pregnancy).

Symptoms: Nausea, and I've noticed that I really have to stick to lots of mini-meals rather than 3 bigger meals or else I get more nauseous. But it's been 7 days since I've thrown up! (it's the small triumphs when you're preggers, haha!)
Don't have a lot of energy, I'm happy to just stay home all day in my pjs and just do a little cleaning and unpacking sandwiched between lots of watching Netflix breaks, ha! Also those spider veins are popping up on my legs, but I don't mine. Baby Girl's life is worth every single symptom.

Best moment of the week: Ultrasound day was perhaps the best day of my life! Mike took off work for a couple hours. I was getting a little irked because Mike kept getting calls from work before (and even during the ultrasound, but luckily he ended up just turning off the ringer after about the third call during the ultrasound). I was like, "they're going to be calling you while I'm in labor!!!!" haha, it's kind of comical though.
It was beyond words precious watching our little girl kick and wiggle and dance around. I'll admit, I went home and bought that Groupon for 50% off a 3D ultrasound at Prenatal Peek so a few months from now we can see her again before her birthday this holiday season.

"For this child I have prayed..." (1 Sam. 1:27)

We love you and pray for you, Baby Girl. Before I even woke up this morning your Daddy was in your nursery praying for you. We are so excited about your little life!

A Little Look at Our New Home

I have yet to post any photos of our new home since we moved late last month. But with Kelly's Korner hosting a home tour link-up today, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to snap some photos of our new nest. We are so thankful for God's provision, and our loving settling in this new home.

Here's a view of the living room mantle and fireplace as well as the dining area as seen from the entryway.

We just replaced the picture on the right with a collage of three of our favorite snapshots from our ultrasound of Baby Girl Schneider.

Meet Baby Schneider

Baby Schneider was a wiggle worm, moving all over the place just dancing away. Perhaps the best day of my life to date, just watching that little life. I could have stayed in that ultrasound clinic for hours, I just could not take my eyes off that screen for one minute...

As soon as the sonographer turned on the screen this little hand appeared as if to say "hi, mom and dad!"

Dancing Feet!

Someone already likes laying on their tummy just like Daddy.

Oh, and you're wondering boy or girl?

I already love you, baby girl. Keep growing strong and healthy and I don't mind if you kick me a lot. I'm just glad to have and hold you.

Late Week & Weekend

Here's a look at the late part of last week into the weekend...

Thursday afternoon brought my best girlfriend, Caitlin.
And this Registered Dietitian in training brought a delicious treat- cake donuts from the Babycakes NYC recipe book. They were unbelievably delicious and food allergy friendly and healthy.

Friday morning (and Thursday night) I was seriously couch bound with bad nausea and headaches. Thursday night was a little rough because my husband had to work really late and I was so sick. But he came home from work early on Friday afternoon to take care of me and bring me flowers and my favorite applesauce squeezers (pregnancy craving that is always easy on my tummy).
I called my midwife for advice, which I guess was really more mental for me. She told me to stick to liquids (like applesauce squeezers, yum!) and by Friday evening I was so much better. And that was a good thing because we had house guests Friday evening!

Soon to be married Ben (my hub's best friend) and Susie stayed with us as they were passing through our way to a wedding. Saturday before we all left for the wedding we snapped a few photos. You should check out Susie's blog, it's absolutely adorable!

Ben was best man in our wedding and now Mike is best man in Ben's wedding. I always enjoy hearing tales of the crazy things they did in college like chasing a duck around campus in hopes of putting it in the wash room as a joke. I guess if we have a boy I'm in for a wild ride, ha!

Soon to be Mr. & Mrs. We're glad they'll only be living 3 hours away. That's totally driveable for a weekend visit.

Sunday morning I wasn't feeling well again, so my sweet husband cooked me breakfast...

Turkey bacon and scrambled eggs, I enjoyed this with a side of Silk Chocolate Soy Milk, my latest preggers cravings.

We also had some of the homemade Strawberry Jam Susie left us as a hostess gift.
Oh was this jam delicious or what. Best jam I have ever had, hands down!

16 Weeks!

I'm 16 weeks, that means I'm 4 months, almost halfway there!

Size of baby: 4 and 1/2 inches long and approximately 3 ounces.

Baby is: According to what I've read Baby Schneider's heat is pumping 25 quarts of blood a day! (no wonder I get winded just walking up the stairs, whew!). Baby Schneider's movements are becoming more coordinated everyday.

Maternity Clothes: Still wearing non-maternity clothes, but I've definitely had to modify my wardrobe: lots of flowy sundresses, stretchy skirts and elastic band workout capris/shorts.

Sleep: I'm tired so I fall asleep pretty quickly, but I tend to wake up early and get up right away to get something to eat or else I get sick. I also take lots of rests throughout the day.

Gender: We have our ultrasound next week and they may or may not be able to tell, depending on what position Baby Schneider is in.  We still haven't decided if and when we want to find out the gender before baby is born and if we'll share it or not.

Cravings: I'm just now starting to be able to tolerate a few more foods and my appetite is kicking up now. I've been sooo nauseous up until now that I'm taking it slow with food though. I've been eating lots of Clif Kid Z Bars (can't get enough of them, especially the brownie flavor!). For some reason these taste so good to me because I'm craving sweet things, but something as sweet as dessert doesn't sound appetizing to me. I'm also loving fruit, smoothies, fruit popsicles, and applesauce because they satisfy my sweet craving and my thirst craving. Also scrambled eggs.

Symptoms: Mild nausea and strong food aversions and smell aversions. I have to pee ALL THE TIME, haha. Very thirsty.

Best moment this week: The baby must have really grown because my belly has had a growth spurt in the last week. I love that there's no question about my bump now when I'm out and about...I definitely look pregnant! Even in the few days since I took these pictures my belly has visibly grown.

Bald Head Island Babymoon

Here are some of our vacation pictures from our favorite place, Bald Head Island North Carolina...

Beach run

Somebody made me pumpkin pancakes: a daddy pancake, mommy pancake, and baby pancake.

We had a couple chilly rainy days, I did not properly prepare when it came to packing clothes appropriate for a couple chilly wet days. Ironically, I over packed just about everything else.

There are no cars on Bald Head Island, just golf carts when you're on island time.

Painting on a rainy day...

 But the sun came out!

Reading on the beach- my favorite!

I'm super careful about skincare so I layered on the sunscreen, covered up, and sat under a beach umbrella.

 Paddle boarding

I have been crazy thirsty this pregnancy. I seriously cannot get enough water.
