Caroline's 1st Birthday Party

My baby girl turned 1 last week! It was both the longest and the shortest year of my life. Any other moms relate? She grew from baby to toddler sooooo fast. Too fast. But then those sleepness nights lasted too long. Bittersweet.

I wanted to keep it small and simple for her 1st birthday celebration. I think there's a lot of pressure among moms to throw really big perfectly planned and themed 1st birthday parties. I know there are some moms out there who just love hosting and that planning a big celebration is fun for them. I'm not bestowed with the gift of hosting. Planning for even just a casual having friends over for dinner stresses me out. I probably worry way to much about food and whether or not I'm making something everyone will like and if my house is clean enough. See, obviously not the party planner type no matter how hard I wish I could be a good party planner.

So we kept it small and simple this year. And Caroline LOVED it. I think it turned out just right.

For my own memory sake I want to remember what I served:
chips and salsa, crackers and spicy white bean dip, grapes, candy dish, and vegan pumpkin chocolate chip muffins instead of birthday cake. I was not about to sugar her up and then have to deal with the sugar crash afterwards. I know a smash cake is a hugely popular tradition, but honest it was so much easier serving her favorite muffins- she loved it, no mess, no cranky sugar low for baby (and she was cranky tired enough after all the excitement!)

She also really enjoyed the getting toys part.
And putting the gift bows on her head. She kept doing that. Maybe she wants a bow in her hair? I've never tried because I figured she'd rip it out 10 seconds later but maybe she'd go with it. Maybe.

Thank you to the sweet friends and family who helped us make her first little birthday party special.

Happy Birthday, little Miss Caroline!

What are your thoughts on birthday parties for toddlers? Go big or keep it simple? I'm thinking I'll probably wait to go bigger with them when she can enjoy the theme, the decorations, the treats more. Right now she's pretty thrilled with her favorite muffins and the Elmo balloon she had tied to her highchair.

I agree with you 100% on the parties and the food. I think, like you, that some people just love to plan parties, but I also think there's a lot of keeping up with/outdoing others, which is kinda sad! Make it about the kid, not how much others will praise you for how wonderful the party was/looked! Caroline is beautiful and seemed to Love her party and her muffin:) Happy Birthday to her!

I think simple is best! What really matters is spending the time with people who love her! Save the big stuff for when she can really enjoy it :D

A first birthday planning seems interesting, but for parents who plan their kid’s party for the first time, sometimes it becomes a tedious task too. There are various things in a birthday party for kids that needs considerations such as birthday balloons, birthday decoration, food items, interesting games, music and other such essentials. It is essential that in spite of taking stress you should do a planning for the party to make it a fun loving party for the kids you are inviting in the party. Carolin is looking pretty in the pictures and balloons are one of those things that nearly every kid loves to play with. You have planned for a small party in a well organized manner. When it’s was a first birthday party of Lara our neghibour’s daughter they have invited all of us to celebrate the party. The whole room was decorated with flowers and balloons of various shapes. One of the special things was the numbered birthday balloons that I liked the most. They had purchased it from an online store. To know more about different number balloons you can have a look here at http://postalflowers.ie/balloons/numbers-balloons.html
