Caroline at 10 Months

Caroline, you are 10 months old!

Favorites:

Crawling. Now that you've figured out crawling you're all over the place.

You love standing up in your crib after your nap. And speaking of naps you've dropped to just 1 nap a day. Whoa baby, that keeps mommy very busy during the day.

Mimicking whatever silly noises we make in an attempt to make you laugh. The other day I joined you in crawling around on the carpet as we made growling noises. I'm pretty sure playing lions will soon become a favorite game.

Waving "bye bye", especially to the water in the bathtub when we drain it after your evening bath.

Bananas, or "nana" as you call it. Still a favorite you'll eat a whole banana in one sitting no problem. You also enjoy munching on raisins, cheese, black beans, grilled cheese, homemade pizza, and smoothies.

Clapping.

Pointing out the moon when we're on an evening walk or step out onto the front porch.

Baby lapsit at the library (songs, stories, and games for babies).

Seeing dogs. You're obsessed. And I'm a little concerned once you start talking you'll begin the asking for a puppy. No. No. No. No. I am not cleaning up dog hair all day long.

We love you, Caroline! It is a gift to watch you grow.

Avocado & White Bean Salad with Vinaigrette

I posted a picture of this salad on Instagram the other week and had some friends comment on how yummy it looked. But it's also super healthy and ridiculously easy to make. So...since it doesn't seem fair to post a yummy food picture without including a recipe here it goes:

Avocado & White Bean Salad with Vinaigrette

- 1 can white beans
- 1 avocado, chopped
- 1 Roma tomato, chopped
- 1/4 sweet onion chopped (or less or none if you're not a fan of onions)

That's the salad base and here's the vinaigrette:
- 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- fresh or dried basil to taste (I prefer using fresh)
- garlic, finely chopped to taste (a little does a lot so go light on the garlic)
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon mustard
Whisk vinaigrette ingredients together then pour over salad base and mix well. Refrigerate for a few hours before serving. Viola! Yummy vegan veggie deliciousness. And extra points because my husband loves this salad. If a man likes it it passes the food test and isn't just "healthy chick food".

Bald Head Island 2013 Part II

If you missed it you can read Part I of our first vacation as a family here

After lunch we hung out a bit more at The Shoal's Club before heading back to the beach house for naptime. This is one of my favorite parts of the island...this porch area of Shaol's Club looking over the beach. It's like paradise!

And speaking of snoozing this was our next to last morning...we were so tired from Caroline waking up extra early that we just let her eat her morning toast while watching a little toddler TV, which we never usually let her do (we don't have a TV at home). She loved it, which makes me glad we don't have a TV at home. That's one battle I won't have to fight with her when as she gets older...TV time.

We had to keep Caroline busy around the island, so she drove us on a few adventures....
We visited the nature reserve and saw the alligator. I promise it was a lot bigger in person (about 8 feet) and I wasn't in love with the idea about being that close to a wild alligator in its habitat. But at the same time it was a unique and revering experience to be so close to undisturbed nature. Mike was a huge fan of the alligator preserve.

We did a little more hanging out at The Shoal's Club. I got 20 minutes of mommy time in the fitness room while Mike attempted to keep the little bit entertained and busy...not an easy task! It felt so good to work out...I haven't hit the gym since before I was pregnant with Caroline...that's a year and a half!

We waited out a shower on The Shaol's Club porch...

Caroline did a lot of this: from happy and smiley to bored in 30 seconds flat. Just gearing up for toddlerhood...uh-oh.

Caroline LOVED the nonstop Daddy time!

Caroline had a fabulous time with Daddy on the porch swing our very last day on the island. Makes me wish we had a porch swing or hammock for her to enjoy at home.

And I forgot to include this on my first post...but here's Caroline's first golf ride as she waved to the island. We'll just finish up the Bald Head Island vacation posts with this video and call it a good bye wave to Bald Head Island family vacation 2013...

We were grateful for the family time together, especially since Mike's work schedule keeps him busy. And Bald Head Island is such a beautiful and secluded place. I hope we'll get to go back again next year...but we'll just have to see and keep our fingers crossed.

Because a Video Montage Kicks a Hallmark Card's Booty

The other day Mike and I celebrated five years since our story began. Remembering back to that first fall we were dating is one of the sweetest memories I hold. The past year our holidays and anniversaries have been on the very crummy side due to sicknesses and hospital stays and such. So Mike went the extra mile and instead of getting me a card put together a little something more...

But as I told Mike now there's two problems: 1) he raised the bar and with it my expectations...I'll be wanting more memory filled video montages instead of cards and 2) now I want a Mac too so I can use imovie. Uh-oh. Babe, you might have garnered a little more trouble than you thought.
